Plan backward from the output
Choose the good or objective you need, then trace every immediate input back to extraction. Total shared upstream demand before rounding building counts so one resource is not accidentally planned twice.
Use the planner as a capacity baseline and leave headroom when the real route is long or unreliable.
Make logistics visible
Place frequent suppliers and consumers near one another where terrain allows. Add storage because it solves a clear pickup, buffer or transfer need, not because every chain appears to require a warehouse.
When output falls, find the first building missing an input and follow that branch upstream. The final producer is often only where the problem becomes visible.
Expand one pressure point at a time
A new chain adds buildings, jobs, routes and demand. Confirm the existing haven remains stable before opening another chain or voyage requirement.
Keep reserves for important construction and supplies, but measure production flow separately from the size of a stockpile.
